Day 31, January 31, 2011

I thought this was a really cool picture. Today I flew from Maine to New York to meet up with my sister; she and I are working together in Pennsylvania this week. One of my flights was on a propeller plane, and this is an image of the propeller from my window.

Day 30, January 30, 2011

I know that this is very similar to another picture I took a few weeks ago, but it was just too pretty to pass up. This is at the same field we always take Cypress to, just as the sun was beginning to set.

Day 29, January 29, 2011

Today I decided to make Nutella Lava Chocolate Cookies from this recipe. I substituted a baking GF flour mix (brown rice flour + potato starch + tapioca flour) instead of wheat flour. I haven't tried them yet but they look and smell delicious!

Day 28, January 28, 2011

This is a picture of one of our cabinets. For those of you that don't know, I have celiac disease and am therefore barred from consuming gluten. This is my little part of our cabinet - you can see Tinkyada pasta (my favorite), a TastyBite meal, Thai Kitchen meal, Bisquick Gluten-Free Pancake Mix, and Gluten Free Pantry Pancake Mix. Rob's best friend, Trent, came to visit a few weeks ago and bought a few industrial-sized can of Chef Boyardee (decidedly NOT gluten-free) and I thought the contrast was interesting. :)

Day 27, January 27, 2011

I've been working from home lately which means that sometimes I end up doodling in my work notebook. Today on the television was something about the State of the Union speech and how Obama called this "our Sputnik moment." Since I speak and write Russian, and actually hold a degree in Russian, I was motivated to write the word "sputnik" (meaning "satellite") in Russian.

Day 26, January 26, 2011

I had to walk my dog today since my husband had class. This is actually the river near our house in front of her, but it is covered in snow and Cypress didn't feel brave enough to venture there.

Day 25, January 25, 2011

My husband and I are big fans of Social Distortion, who just came out with a new album on January 18. It finally came today, and here it is :)

Day 24, January 24, 2011

Ever since the early days of my relationship with my husband and I have had an affinity to turtles (basically a long-running inside joke). As a result we've bought each other turtle figurines along our various travels. Right now a few of them are sitting on our bathroom windowsill, hence this picture. Pardon the darkness, it was morning. :)

Day 23, January 23, 2011

Tonight we are experiencing a "deep freeze," with temperatures dipping to around -20 degrees later tonight. This is our indoor thermometer at the beginning of this horrifyingly cold evening.

Day 22, January 22, 2011

On January 22 we went home from the hospital. We caught the 8:50 a.m. train to Portland and drove from there to Nick and Jessi's house. This is a picture of inside North Station just before we boarded our train.

Day 20, January 20, 2011

Boston! This is the view from Jessi's hospital room. Boston is really a beautiful a little town...a little crazy driving-wise, but beautiful and historical.

Day 19, January 19, 2011

This is Nick in Boston. Nick's wife, my sister-in-law, had a prophylactic mastectomy yesterday (she had a mastectomy in 2009 to remove a tumor) and I came down to help them out. Nick and I waited in the atrium lobby for 3-4 hours or so and Nick eventually fell asleep.

Her surgery went really well though! :)

Day 18, January 18, 2011

What is this crazy thing, you may ask? Last night I drove to my brother- and sister-in-law's house in preparation for a trip to Boston. They have two cats at their house, Nemo and Petrie, who love various cat toys, including this peacock feather they rather enjoy.

Oops, forgot to post this yesterday! This is my darling husband making us brinner (breakfast for dinner). He made omelettes with onion, mushroom and cheese as well as bacon.

Day 16, January 16, 2011

Part of our extensive movie collection. My husband and I are huge fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (actually it's one of the initial things that drew us together), so we have tons of episodes on DVD. This is only a sampling.

Day 14, January 14, 2011

One of my goals for 2011 is to somehow pull together our decor. Currently we are living in a decently-sized apartment with a lot of hand-me-down furniture and random pictures on the wall. I decided to use some of these bottles/vases (our centerpieces from our wedding this last July) in various places in our home. This is a shelf on our bookcase. The picture on the left is of Rob's great-great-great (something) grandfather, William Abrams, who fought in the Civil War. On the right is a picture of my deceased maternal grandfather, Jim Noble.

Day 13, January 13, 2011

This picture is actually upside-down but whatevs. My husband and his best friend went to get tattoos today, and since my husband is usually the dog-walker in our family I had to take over the responsibility. I went out with snow shoes, which was super awkward and clumsy but it was good to get some exercise in addition to the gym, I suppose!

Day 12, January 12, 2011

We got quite the blizzard here today. Initially we were told to expect 3-6 inches, and the count gradually increased and now we're nearing 8-10 inches. Needless to say we didn't leave the house at all today.

Day 11, January 11, 2011

My husband and I both have tattoos and are both pretty interested in the tattoo culture and tattoo history. A tattooist friend of mine had posted this book on Facebook and I was instantly intrigued - especially because we had a $50 gift card to Amazon. We bought it last week and it came today, and here it is!

Day 9, January 9, 2011

Today Rob's best friend, Trent, came to visit us. He flew into a tiny airport about 30 miles from us and this statue is at the airport. The statue is in honor of Vicki Van Meter, who at age 11 flew from Augusta, Maine to San Diego, California, and at age 12 she flew from to Scotland. She passed away at the age of 26 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and this statue was erected in her honor.

Day 7, January 7, 2011

This is at my sister-in-law's house. Around Thanksgiving her son wrote "nobody's perfect" on their chalkboard and at Thanksgiving someone wrote this response. It's still there and I laugh when I see it.

Day 6, January 6, 2011

Rob and I bought this sign for our wedding this past July. Unfortunately it rained on our wedding day and you couldn't easily see the sign since it blended in with the brush where we placed it. It now sits in our yard. I think one day soon I'll remove the screws and hang the pieces on our wall, but for now, it's outside.

Day 5, January 5, 2011

Today Rob and I finally packed up our Christmas decorations. For the last 2 years we've used this box, but each year we get new Hallmark ornaments and we've officially reached this box's limit.

Rob decided to initiate the tradition of buying one Hallmark ornament for each of us every Christmas. This year we got Jack Skellington (shown here) and the Grinch with Max. Rob's mother got us the ornament on the left, which says "Our First Christmas Together" and a picture of us from the wedding.

Day 4, January 4, 2011

I actually decided to post three pictures today. There's a big hay field near our home in Maine that serves as an ersatz dogpark, ski area, etc. We took Cypress, our dog, there today to meet with two of her best dog friends. She had to go to the vet today because of an infection in her eye so this was her reward.

The top picture is a frozen footprint that looked kind of like a heart. For some reason blogger won't let me rotate the picture but you get the point. The other two show the sun setting.

Day 3, January 3, 2011

This is my favorite lamp in our house. We've had it since I was in college, when Rob helped me redecorate my room on one visit.

I realized that my last few pictures have all been kind of dark...I'll work on a daytime one tomorrow.

Day 2, January 2, 2010

I found all our love letters the other day and have been contemplating how to integrate them into our decor. This letter was written on February 3, 2006. I was nearing 20 and Rob turned 21 the following August. He was in the second year of his Army enlistment. So hard for me to believe that we were apart for so long and that we are finally able to live together.

Day 1 - January 1, 2011

Welcome to my 365 photos blog! I did this project back in college and found it interesting...so here I am again for 2011!

Rather than have this blog serve as a vehicle for my photography (a serious hobby of mine), I prefer to move it in a "Day in the Life" sort of direction. So, I'm going to mostly use my cell phone camera (HTC Incredible) and my point-and-shoot (a Canon SD1300). I may decide to post more photographically advanced pictures with my Nikon D60, but we'll see where the year takes us.

So, without further ado, the first picture in my series:

My husband, Rob, and I spent this New Year's Eve with Rob's brother, Nick, and his wife, Jessi, as well as Jessi's sister Bethany. I took this picture of Rob and Bethany just as the clock turned to midnight.

Happy New Year all, and thanks for reading!
